Our experience over the years when it comes to selecting top quality raw materials has enabled us – at Necon Pet Food – to identify the best ingredients to produce Salmoil ricetta 1, a line of supplementary foods created in collaboration with veterinary doctors specialised in animal nutrition.

Salmoil Recipe 1 is made up of:

  • supreme quality Norwegian salmon oil rich in Omega 3 sourced from selected suppliers operating in compliance with environmental sustainability
  • olive oil (basic component of the Mediterranean diet)
  • beta -carotene and high bioavailability organic zinc
  • vitamin E
  • mix of antioxidant vegetable extracts from rosemary, tumeric, citrus fruits and cloves.

Omega 3s are a family of long-chain unsaturated fatty acids (from 18 to 22 carbon atoms).

They are also referred to as “Essential Fatty Acids” given that deficiency thereof in the diet could lead to the dysfunction of some physiological activities.

The Omega 3s family includes:

  • Alpha-linoleic acid (in which flax oil and cameline oil for example are rich)
  • EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid): in which fish oil is rich.

BENEFITS FOR THE ANIMALS

Plenty of scientific evidence (based on clinical studies carried out on domestic animals) has incontrovertibly proven the beneficial effects of Omega 3 fats on the health of the skin, limbs, kidney and on the improvement of cognitive performance.

Thus, more and more food for dogs and cats has been enriched with unsaturated fatty acids even though the production process, and in particular high temperature treatments, can reduce its biological and health properties.

This is why we created Salmoil Ricetta 1: pure Norwegian salmon oil (sourced from suppliers operating in compliance with environmental sustainability) a natural source of Omega 3, enriched with supreme quality vegetable oils. With the aim of boosting its beneficial effects, Salmoil was supplemented with antioxidant substances (for instance such as vitamin E, beta carotene and an exclusive mix of vegetable extracts obtained from rosemary, tumeric, citrus fruits, cloves) and high bioavailability organic zinc , which is extremely for maintaining a healthy skin.

THE BIOSYNTHESIS OF EICOSANOIDS FROM THE OMEGA 3 AND OMEGA6 FATTY ACIDS

PHYSIOLOGICAL FUNCTIONS OF OMEGA 3

Omega 3 fatty acids (FA) are necessary for brain and eyes function and play an important anti-inflammatory role demonstrated in dogs and cats, especially regarding skin, joints and kidneys.

Omega 3 are able to compete with arachidonic acid (an Omega6 fatty acid) for the production of Eicosanoids. Eicosanoids are active substances, they carry out their effect in a direct and local way and are present in all tissues. Part of Eicosanoid family are also compounds called Leukotrienes and Prostaglandins, acting as activators and modulators of the inflammatory response.

Eicosanoids are synthesized by action of cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase enzymes, starting from arachidonic acid. The availability of omega3 into the cells or the tissues means that they can be used, instead of arachidonic acid, in eicosanoid synthesis process

This competition involves a shift towards the production of eicosanoids with anti-inflammatory properties (Lucotrienes series 5, Prostaglandins series 3 – produced from Omega 3 fatty acids) rather than pro-inflammatory eicosanoids (Lucotrienes series 5, Prostaglandins series 3 – coming from arachidonic acid).
